Josephine M. Donaldson
Eau Claire, Wis. —Josephine M. (Monarski) Donaldson, lifelong resident of Eau Claire, died Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 23, 2003, at her home on Fulton Street in Eau Claire at the age of 100.

Josephine was born Oct. 25, 1902, to John and Mary (Piotrowski) Monarski. She attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire. She taught grade school for several years in Chippewa Falls and Ladysmith.

In 1930, she married Ralph Donaldson. They made their home in Eau Claire, where she was a member of St. Patrick's Parish. She was a member of the parish choir for more than 30 years. For many years she was involved at St. Patrick's Elementary School and Regis High School.

She is survived by a large family: eight children, Sister Mary Jo OSB of Eau Claire, Elizabeth (John) Maloney of Tyler, Texas, Robert (Mary) of Flagstaff, Ariz., Patrick (Camille) of La Crosse, Barbara (Nathan) Collins of Phoenix, Ariz., Father Thomas Donaldson of Ellsworth, Wis., Sister Bridget OSB of Holmen, Wis., and Rita (David) McCarthy of Nekoosa, Wis.; 26 grandchildren; 45 great-grandchildren; as well as Sister Petronelle Marthaler OSB, her caregiver for many years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ralph; her parents, John and Mary Monarski; one son, John Charles; one sister, Elizabeth; two brothers, Frank and Peter Monarski.

Visitation will take place Friday, Sept. 26, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church from 4 to 7 p.m. The Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 7 p.m. with Father Tom Donaldson as celebrant.

Burial will be Saturday, Sept. 27, at St. Patrick's Cemetery. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Northwest Wisconsin Homecare for their excellent care and support during her illness. Golden Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
