SHIRLEY A. HANSON, 69, of 2024 McKinley Road, died Sunday evening, November 26, 2000 at Luther Hospital. Shirley was born in Whitehall, Wisconsin on August 6, 1931 to Harmie and Helen (Engum) Hommen. She lived her entire life in Eau Claire and the Town of Seymour. She graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1949 and later worked as a secretary for Dr. Leonard Haas and others at the UW-EC, and then at Black and McKinley Elementary Schools. Shirley then made many additional friends working 25 years at Weight Watchers before retiring in 1996. She worked on the Town of Seymour election board for several years. Shirley enjoyed roller skating for many years with her friends and swimming at the YMCA.
She is survived by Hartwick, the most faithful and loving husband any wife ever had. They were married on September 20, 1952 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Eau Claire after which she became a member of First Lutheran with Hart. Shirley and Hart enjoyed many trips with friends and relatives and over 25 years spending time at their cabin on Island Lake near New Auburn.
She is also survived by a son, Wayne (Sandra) of Eau Claire; daughter, Sonja (Paul) Andrashko of Eau Claire; two grandsons; and five granddaughters; brother, Donovan (Marygrace) Hommen and sister Yvonne (William) Kuhlman both of Decorah, IA; two brothers-in-law, Alden (Beverly) Hanson of Golden Valley, MN, and Gordon Hanson of Balsam Lake, WI; sister-in-law, Norma (Dennis) Bohman of Eau Claire; nine nieces and three nephews.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Harmie and Helen Hommen; parents-in-law, Noble and Betty Hanson; and sister-in-law, Barbara Hanson.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2000 at First Lutheran Church with Pastor Duane C. Pederson officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery in the Town of Washington. Family and friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and an hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
