Sister Leorita Mousel, FSPA
Sister Leorita Mousel, Franciscan Sister of Perpetual Adoration, 83, died Saturday, July 20, 2002, at Villa St. Joseph, La Crosse. Sister Leorita was born to Michael and Louisa Margaret (Zimmer) Mousel on Jan. 14, 1919, in Elmwood, Wis. She entered St. Rose Convent on Aug. 15, 1937, and made profession of vows on Aug. 12, 1940. Sister Leorita entered the field of education, ministering as an elementary teacher for 16 years in schools in Washington and Wisconsin. From 1956 to 1969 she was an accountant at St. Joseph Memorial Hospital and Nursing Home, Hillsboro, Wis. After that ministry, Sister Leorita became a licensed practical nurse and served in that capacity for 20 years, including 13 years at Villa St. Joseph. She concluded her years of active ministry as medical record librarian and then receptionist at Villa St. Joseph. Sister Leorita retired to St. Rose Convent in 1992 and to the Villa in 1995.
Sister Leorita is survived by her Franciscan community; two sisters, Beatrice Mousel, Eau Claire, Wis., and Theresa (Robert) Schwartz, Sheboygan, Wis.; a brother, Charles; two sisters-in-law, Marian Yauch, Elmwood, Wis., and Therese Mousel, Fort Benton, Mont.; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and seven brothers.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. on Tuesday, July 23, 2002, when the body will be met at St. Rose Convent, La Crosse. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. in Mary of the Angels Chapel. The Rev. Thomas O'Neill, chaplain at Viterbo University, will preside at the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 24, in Mary of the Angels Chapel. Burial will be in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, La Crosse.
