Help! Looking for Edward Ruidl (b. 1874, WI, d. 2/4/1941, St. Louis Co., MN):
He md Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler Jan. 26, 1910, Jefferson Co., WI. His family is supposed to have originated from Black Forest, Germany. I can't find anything on him, though. I don't have a subscription, so I can't go back into the census'. He was supposed to have had a brother named Karl/Carl Ruidl. I wish I knew more about his ancestry/history. I have everything I need on all his kids. I'd like to link up with Karl/Carl Ruidl, too! Any help great or small would be so WONDERFUL!
Thanks!
Renia (Tirenia DeSmedt)

I'm trying to find anything on these two families. The Ruidl's were from Black Forest, Germany, and the DeSmedt's were Belgiums. The oldest Ruidl's I have are Edward and Karl Ruidl. I know nothing more on Karl, but Edward was born 1874, Germany, and died 4 Feb 1941 in St. Louis Co., Mn. Edward married Cathrine (Kathrine) Ann Ziegler (b. 1885, d. 25 Jul 1952 St. Louis Co., Mn). They had about 8 kids -- Dorothy, Michael, Edward 'Eddy', Patrick 'Pat', Loraine, Mary, Alice, and Selina (Sally), I've been told by family members and friends that it was thought that Edward had been briefly in Wisconsin before coming on to Minnesota. It's also believed that he came to Wisconsin straight from Germany.
The oldest DeSmedt's I have are: Charles 'Carolus' and his wife Elodie. Charles died mysteriously in a barn fire accident in Belgium before Elodie and her children came over to the U.S. The Children are as follows: Maurice Joseph DeSmedt (b.13 Feb 1894 - Belgium, d. 16 Jun 1975, Duluth, Mn. -- married to Rosie Mosiniak), Aime, Marshall, Ester, Elsie, Mary, Omer, Robert, and Albert.
I wish I could verify all this for my family's sake! If anyone can help me I would GREATLY appreciate it! I don't have ANY idea where else to look!

O.k... I TOO stayed up late last night and FINALLY got
through to the Ellis Island website. My Maurice
DESMEDT came up right away, but BOY!!! Was I suprised
about his family!!! It appears that his family had
went by the last name De SMEDT. It's funny that he was
the ONLY one among the 8 of them with the spelling
that I've been searching! I know that it's them, as
all the names/ages of his sibs fit. And I found
something ELSE!! I had always thought that his mother
was ELODIE, and it appears that I misheard his family,
and the actually spelling, though similar (I didn't
think of it!) is Alida De Smedt. I don't know the
right spelling for her husband, but I knew he was dead
before she came over. They arrived on 12 May 1914, and
their last residence was Looknkulle, Belgium. It said
their ethnicity was Belgium/Flemish. (I learned
something VALUABLE!) Well, does anyone recognize this
family now?
I'm still stumped on the RUIDL family, though! It
appears that either they came over sooner than we
thought, or there is DEFFINATELY a different spelling!
(I'm opting for the different spelling, as I can't
find many of them at ALL in the world!).
Could someone give me some suggestions on various
spellings for 'RUIDL'? In English, it sounds like Ru-
dul........... (rymes with 'noodle'! lol!)
I hope some of you may recognize this family, and
maybe some of you can give me more pointers!
Thanks yea, or nay!
Renia
