Owen Dale Bergh, age 87, of Eau Claire passed away Wednesday morning, July 31, 2013 at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire after dealing with cancer for two years.

A celebration of Owen's life will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday, August 3, 2013, at Fuller Speckien Hulke Funeral Home. Pastor Brian Quade of Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church will officiate. A lunch will be served immediately following the service at Bethesda Lutheran Brethren Church, 123 W. Hamilton Avenue, Eau Claire, WI 54701. Memorial visitation will take place at the funeral home on Saturday an hour prior to the service. Private family inurnment will take place in the Rest Haven Cemetery in the Town of Washington at a later date with military honors being rendered by American Legion Post 53.

Owen was born on March 28, 1926 in Eau Claire to Allen and Gladys (Shock) Bergh. He lived on the family farm in Drammen/Brunswick and attended Hemlock Country School until the age of ten, when he moved to Eau Claire.

He graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1943, then attended the Eau Claire State Teacher's College (now U.W.E.C). Owen married Ardell Vefald on March 16, 1946 at First Lutheran Church in Eau Claire. He played the French horn in the Eau Claire City Band. He was a member of the local chapter of Wisconsin Toastmasters, and he held a real-estate license for many years. He served his country as a Corporal in the U.S. Army, being honorably discharged in 1949. Owen worked at Uniroyal as a supervisor/shift foreman until he retired on July 1, 1982 after 37 years.

Owen loved his family and enjoyed his grandchildren. He was a quiet and gentle man with a strong faith in God. He loved to tinker, repairing and restoring furniture and other items. He could figure anything out and was always the families' go-to man when they needed something fixed or a problem solved. He also enjoyed metal detecting with his wife whether locally or down in Florida. Everyone who met Owen loved and respected him. He will be sorely missed by family and friends.

Owen is survived by his wife, Ardell; three daughters, Sharron (Larry) Rasmussen, Deborah Miller, and Jane (Marty) Morris all of Eau Claire; five grandchildren, Stephanie (David) Dewitz of Mosinee, Holly (Sam) Klumb of Marshfield, Seth (Karrie) Morris of Eau Claire, Sara (Jeff) Bahrs of Evansville, WI, Joelle (Zack) Tesar of Waterloo, Nebraska; seven great-grandchildren, Chandra and Kyle Dewitz, Teagan and Logan Olson and Trevor Bahrs, Hailey and Tylan Klumb; sister, Norma Christopher; sister-in-law, Beryl Bergh; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Donna and Art Taylor; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Roger Bergh; mother and father-in-law, Lena and Elmer Vefald; brother-in-law, Boyd Christopher; son-in-law, Daniel Miller; and granddaughter, Kristy Rasmussen.
