Floyd J. Austin, 75, of Eau Claire, died Saturday, April 22, 2006 at his home following a courageous battle with cancer. Floyd was born January 28, 1931 in Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County to Adolph and Minnie (Engum) Austin. At age 17 he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served aboard a destroyer. After returning to Eau Claire, he married Mary Dupey on October 28, 1950 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Chippewa Falls, WI. Floyd worked as traveling grocery salesman in Northwest Wisconsin for over 39 years, serving customers who also became his friends. He volunteered at St. Francis Food Pantry for nine years after retiring. He loved bingo, shopping, and garage sales with his wife and grandchildren, but especially treasured spending time with family friends, and talking with neighbors at home. Floyd is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Mary; two sons, John (Sandra) of Tunkhannock, PA and Thomas (Sara) of Fond du Lac, WI; one daughter Donna Peterson of Eau Claire; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Floyd is preceded in death by: his parents; one son James; two brothers, Leslie and Kenneth. Mass of Christian burial will be Wednesday, April 26, 2006 at 12:30 p.m. at St. James the Greater Catholic Church with Rev. John Schultz officiating. Interment will be in St. Rose of Lima Cemetery at a later date. Relatives and friends may call from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday at the church. In lieu of floral arrangements, the family suggests memorials be directed to the St. James ëAll Are Welcome Fundí.
