Truman Odell Olson, age 87, of Whitehall, died on Monday, April 14, 2014 in the Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall.
Truman was born on June 9, 1926 in the town of Chimney Rock, Trempealeau County, WI to Alfred and Hilda (Halvorson) Olson. He was baptized and confirmed in the Chimney Rock Lutheran Church and graduated from the Independence High School.
Truman married Myrtle Engum on June 9, 1950 in Whitehall. Truman farmed in Chimney Rock and also worked at American Motors in Kenosha and Land O’ Lakes in Whitehall. He was later employed with the Whitehall School District where he was head of maintenance for many years.
Truman attended the Reisch School of Auctioneering in Mason City, IA with his brother, Reuben. Truman and Reuben worked together doing auctions and later Truman worked with Richard Eide. Truman was once honored to auctioneer at the Northwest Livestock Sale.
Truman was a member of Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church and was a trustee for twelve years.
Truman was proud of his Scandinavian heritage and traveled to Norway twice. He also traveled to Switzerland, Germany and Alaska.
Truman enjoyed doing genealogy, carpentry, fox trapping, hunting, fishing in Canada and following the Green Bay Packers and Milwaukee Brewers.
Truman is survived by his wife, Myrtle; four children, Mark (Ellen) Olson of Pleasantville, Mary (Mark) Hutchinson of Eleva, Dan (Cindy) Olson of Black River Falls and Ruth (Keith Kohnert) Warner of Onalaska; ten grandchildren, Jeremy (Heather) Olson, Shanna (Dan) Klidzejs, Shonda (Cody Thiess) Olson, Joshua Hutchinson, Jamie (Eric) Peterson, Jacob Olson, Josh and Katie Pierce, Kyle and Maria Warner; nine great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Truman was preceded in death by four brothers. Afner, Phillis, Reuben and Duane and two sisters, Phoebe and Marjorie.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 18, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. in Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church with burial in the Lincoln Cemetery both in Whitehall. Pastor Yvonne Marshall will officiate.
Visitation will be Thursday, April 17, 2014 from 4-7 p.m. in the Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday.

WHITEHALL, Wis. -- Truman O. Olson, 87, of Whitehall died Monday, April 14, 2014, at Gundersen Tri-County Care Center in Whitehall. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday at Our Saviour’s Lutheran Church, with burial in Lincoln Cemetery, both in Whitehall. Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Jack Funeral Home in Whitehall, and also one hour before services Friday at the church.
