Viola D. Fjelstad, 82, of Mondovi, passed away Wednesday, September 15, 2010 at American Lutheran Home in Mondovi.
She was born on August 31, 1928 in the Town of Chimney Rock, in Trempealeau County to Odin and Clara (Engum) Fjelstad. She was baptized and confirmed in the East Bennett Valley Lutheran Church. Viola married Arthur E. Shafer in Great Falls, Montana in 1949. They later divorced. Viola returned to Wisconsin where she had a second hand store in Eleva. She then lived in Eau Claire and worked for Grace Lutheran Foundation doing homecare. After she retired in 1997 she moved to Mondovi. Viola enjoyed gardening and flowers.
She is survived by a sister, Linda (Dennis) Hillestad; a sister-in-law, Donna Hanson; and several nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents, Odin and Clara; her stepmother, Selma; three sisters, Minnie Rongholt, Bernice Fjelstad and Marie Gunderson; five brothers, Richard, Clifford, Wayne Fjelstad, LaVerne and Don Hanson; two brothers-in-law, Roy Rongholt and Arnold Gunderson; two sisters-in-law, Iva Fjelstad and Irene Fjelstad.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, September 21, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi with Pastor Paul Pillman officiating. Burial will be at the East Bennett Valley Cemetery.
Visitation will be held Tuesday, September 21, from 11:00 a.m. until the time of services at the Kjentvet-Smith Funeral Home in Mondovi.
