Bernardine M. Vespa SHERMAN - Bernardine M. Vespa, 89, of Sherman, died at 5:34 am, Friday, October 22, 2010 at St. John's Hospital. She was born September 29, 1921 in Eau Claire, WI to Jack and Pauline Ludwikuski Green. She married John R. Vespa in 1947 and he preceded her in death on July 19, 1981. Her parents also preceded her in death. She is survived by daughter Paula Thomas of Sherman; 2 sons Michael Vespa and Joseph Vespa of Springfield; 10 grandchildren; 2 great grandchildren. Bernardine was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during WWII. She was a registered nurse and retired from St. John's Hospital. She was a member of Sacred Heart Church and Catholic War Veterans. She co-founded the Blue Army and was a member of the Legion of Mary Auxiliary. Funeral Mass: 10 am, Wednesday, October 27, 2010 at Sacred Heart Church with Reverend Tom Donovan officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery where Sangamon County Interveteran's Burial Detail will conduct military honors.
