Birth: Sep. 1, 1912
Death: Sep. 10, 2007
Arvilla C. Amundson, 95, died at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation Center in Orofino, Idaho, on Sept. 10, 2007.
She was born on Sept. 1, 1912, the only child of William and Ella Scheppke of Melrose. She graduated from Independence High School and earned her teaching certificate from La Crosse State College. She married Dorrance T. Stolts in 1937, and they had two children. Arvilla taught in public schools in and around Hixton until her husband's death in 1961. She then moved to Eau Claire and finished her teaching career in the Eau Claire public school system.
In April of 1966, she married Melvin H. Amundson. They moved to Apache Junction, Ariz., after she retired from teaching, and lived there until Melvin's death in March of 2004. In June of 2005, she moved to Orofino, Idaho, and became a resident of the Clearwater Health Center.
Arvilla loved to sew and quilt — her children and grandchildren all had quilts that she had made for them. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and food preservation. She had recipes galore. Every fall, she dried apricots and grapes and sent them off to family and friends. She was especially proud of the fact that her only granddaughter, Beth, followed in her footsteps as a teacher.
She is survived by a son, Tully (Elaine); a daughter, Ellen (Dean) Grimmestad; a grandson, Michael (Michelle) Stolts; a granddaughter, Beth Strege; grandsons, Heath (Renee) Grimmestad and Garth (Megan) Grimmestad; and great-grandchildren, Alex, Sam, Jada, Michael and Gavin.
Memorial services were held at Clearwater Health and Rehabilitation Center in Orofino.
