Peter J. Schmidt Dies at Age 81 (ECL 23 Feb 1937)
Peter J. Schmidt, 81, a resident of Eau Claire for 58 years and an employee of the Gillette Rubber Company ever since the company was founded here more than 20 years ago, died Sunday afternoon at his home, 725 Hudson Street, after a short illness.
The funeral will be held Wednesday morning, at 8 o’clock from the residence and at 8:30 from the Sacred Heart Church, the Rev. F. X. Orthen officiating. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart cemetery.
Surviving are his widow, three daughters, Sister Mary Norbertine, of Chicago, Miss Margaret and Mrs. Ernest Stelzer of Eau Claire; four sons, the Rev. Lawrence Schmidt, of New York city; Peter, Lawrence (Walter) and Bernard, of Eau Claire.
He had taken care of his duties at the Gillette plant here until his fatal illness a few days ago.

About the same time that the Eau Claire City Directories indicate Peter Schmidt address change from 646 Lake to 725 Hudson.

D. Shaw & Co., successors to Shaw Butler, one of the old pioneer lumbering firms of this valley, built their mill in 1857. In August, 1867, it was destroyed by fire, and rebuilt with great improvements, m January, 1868. The existing mill measures 130x50 feet; is three stories high; cuts 180,000 feet of lumber, 25,000 shingles, and a large amount of lath daily; has two circular saws and one double stock gang of 38 saws. It employs two hundred men. Shaw & Co., own 25,000 acres of pine land, where much of their logging is done. Their principal yard is at Sabula, Iowa, where they sold two and a half milion feet of lumber last year. They have several others along the Mississippi. They own two hundred and fifty acres of land adjoining the mill, on which is built their office, blacksmith shop, grist mill, barns, boarding houses, store, &c. The store is 20x80 on the ground floor, and two stories high.

The Feldartillerie (Field Artillery)
This page lists all Feldartillerie (Field Artillery) Regiments of the German empire in 1914 except the kingdom of Bayern (Bavaria). All Regiments except Sachsen (Saxon) wore a Dunkelblau (dark blue) Waffenrock with black collar and black Swedish cuffs. The collar, cuffs, and piping on the front opening and rear skirt were piped in red. Sachsen (Saxon) Regiments wore a green Waffenrock w/ red collar & cuffs piped in green, however, the front opening and rear skirt were piped in red. For Garde units both collar and cuffs were decorated with yellow Litzen for men, gilt for officers. All Regiments wore a leather Pickelhaube with gilt fittings and a Kugel (ball) top. The chart below lists the Regiment with garrison, cuff details, shoulder strap color with number or cypher, and details of the helmet Wappen (front plate).
