Nora Veum

Nora Veum, 102, of Eau Claire, died Wednesday, October 15, 2003 at Luther Hospital. She was born on October 7, 1901 in Trempealeau County, WI, the daughter of John and Agnes (Johnson) Engum.
Nora married Alvin Veum on July 2, 1927 at Bennett Valley Church in Eleva. They were married for 41 years before his death on September 20, 1969.
They were members of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church for over 60 years after leaving the farm and moving to Eau Claire where Alvin was employed at Uniroyal. Nora actively participated at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Ladies Aid and circle groups and traveled extensively after Alvin’s death.
Nora is survived by three daughters; Beverly (Odd) Johnson of Lewiston, Idaho, Joyce (James G.) Smith and Constance (Francis) Boehm of Eau Claire; ten grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two brothers, Carl and Myron Engum; five sisters, Olga Wold, Lena Vefald, Josie Hestiken, Gunda Olson and Helen Hommen.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, October 21, 2003 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church with Pastor Gary Sahs officiating. Burial will be in Rest Haven Gardens Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. on Monday at Lenmark-Gomsrud-Linn Funeral Home and one hour prior to services on Tuesday at the church.

Selmer Abrahamson was maybe one of Nora’s early boyfriends? Mom said.
Mom said that Nora and her sister Helen moved to Rockford, IL to work at National Key Company. They stayed with relatives of Harmie Hommen while there, and that’s how Helen met Harmie, her future husband. After grade school the kids, including Nora and Helen, had to help work the farm, but Mom thought they left for Rockford around 18 years of age.
