From Edel Gudmunsen via email 17 Mar 2011:
Magnus came home on a visit several years ago, must be 40-50 years ago. He found that we Norwegians left of his family were well off. I do not think he has had a very good life. I know they went to America with 100 dollar, and everybody did too well. I know that they tried to go to the Engums, but they refused them. I guess they were not good enough, as Magnus said.
People here, your ancestors, was very well of in those days. As my mother told me that some of the family had a brewery in Gjøvik and a cafe too.
Mina was the only one of her family left here in Norway, and grandmother Gyda Marie says that the Engums did not want Halstein to come. So therefore we, her family, are here. A sad story in a way.
