Lawrence "Duke" Mousel, age 85, of Eau Claire, formerly of Elk Mound, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2004, at the Syverson Nursing Home in Eau Claire.
He was born Jan. 16, 1919, in Elk Mound, the son of Nicholas and Anna (Zimmer) Mousel, and was raised in Elk Mound. He married Eva Mary Rudahl on May 14, 1949, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Mound.
Lawrence farmed for more than 40 years in the Elk Mound area. He was known by many farmers in the area when he worked for Curtiss. He was a woodcutter throughout his lifetime. Lawrence was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved the outdoors and had interests in beekeeping, gardening and trapping.
Lawrence is survived by his wife of 55 years, Eva Mary of Eau Claire; children, Jeanne Mousel of Milwaukee; Steven of Elk Mound, Mary (Robert) Myers of Eau Claire, Barb Mousel of Sun Prairie, Judy (Randy) Mayer of Fairfax Station, Va., Patty (Bob) Marlette of Boyceville, Tim (Brenda) of Eau Claire, Robert (Vickie) of Eau Claire, Theresa (Ab) LaRock of Eau Claire, Tom (Pam) of Colfax, Debbie (Kevin) Swartz of Elk Mound, Carrie (Don) Wirth of Hudson, and Rose (Ronnie) Hopper of Romeoville, Ill.; grandchildren, Andy, Adam, Nick, Dewey, Kirsten, Matt, David, Josh, Jon, Chris, Tanya, Amy, Kate, Mariah, Tashanna, Hannah, Isaac, Ben, Greta, Jamie, Miranda, Katrina and Michael; two sisters, Helen Stickney of Texas and Kathryn Rolfe of Colorado; one brother, James of Menomonie; many nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two grandchildren, Abram and Rachel; a son-in-law, Anoop Dhillon; one brother, Clarence; and one sister, Agnes.
Funeral services were Wednesday, Oct. 20, 2004, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Elk Mound with the Rev. Henry Hoerberger officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
